Tattoo Tuesday

Have a few minutes before I have to head out.  Another lovely fall morning.  Last night I had the ingredients and time so I threw together a new test recipe of Pumpkin Angel Food Cake.  Drizzled it with some cream cheese icing to boot.  Taking it in for a meeting snack.  :-)  I figure if I'm forcing a meeting on everyone, I may as well sweetin it up with something yummy.  Makes the list of topics less painful hopefully.  Plus, then I have an excuse to try it too.  :-)

Started a winter project last night too.  Last Christmas, Mr. shared that he knew how to weave scarves with this set of weaving sticks he made.  Random, but he did winter a few times in Vermont, so you gotta survive up there...and stay warm.  So he made a few for my parents gifts.  I joked that I wanted an entire blanket of them.  So, as he's learned to challenge me and motivate me when I'm bored, he brought it up last week.  So, last night I officially began my scarf blanket.  It'll be made of 10-12 scarves woven together in the end.  So...don't think it'll be done over night.  But so far the first strip looks good!  I'm into grey these days, so it's going to be grey, with a few stripes of blues/browns/tans.  Menswear inspired I'd say. We'll see.  If I get it done before winter, I'll have to pop a picture on here.  Or photoshop it draped by a hot guy.  lol.

Anywho.  Enjoy your day...and have something pumpkiny. - Rin

Thirsty Thursday

Life is buzzing and summer is quickly setting in.  I'm just keeping my head up with work and maximizing every minute I'm not consumed by it in some way or the other.  I am not letting the year go by without taking full advantage of long weekends, PTO, and any chance I get to lay out and kick back.  Mr and I are headed to San Diego for a week in just four short weeks.  A weekend in Rehoboth Beach just to get in some last minute family time in and do a joint Mother's/Father's weekend.  Taking the dogs and planning to get plenty of R&R.

I've realized how much Mr. has helped me realize the importance of taking time for yourself and valuing that time.  I have never been good at just taking my down time to relax...always trying to get ahead on chores, projects, and what nots.  Always putting off what I would like to do for what needs done.  There is obviously a time and place where that just is what it is...but there is also a definite need to give yourself a break.  I realized that the less time you think you deserve to spend on taking care of your own mind and body, the more time you actually need to spend on it.  And the more you give yourself that time...the more free and grateful you are for all the rest of the time you have out in the world.

Anywho...that's my rambling.  After a 4am alarm and a long ass day at the sweat shop I am still going strong and trying to not freak out about my 9 straight days of work before my weekend.  I am still trying to squeeze out my Memorial Day off since it's been to crazy to take it since then...it'll get squeezed in somewhere I'm told, but I'm not holding my breath. :-)  I am squeezing in lots of baking...and working on an idea for another blog and eventual mini cookbook idea.  I'll have to test some pics on here and hide them in between hot men to see if anyone notices that they are yummy in a slightly different way.

So...I must go, prep dinner for my man and maybe get a chore done here or there in between.  Breaking old habits takes at least 20 days.  lol.

Cheers - Rin

New Year New You

So, things have been a little quiet on here...I know, I know.  The holidays didn't even drowned me this year so I can't blame that.  I just have been a bit head spacey and not in that "sit down and focus" kind of mind frame.  Mr, the dogs, and I have been staying busy with furniture hunting, hikes, cooking, and some family/friends time mixed in for shits and giggles.

I can finally say that I have officially accepted a new position with a new company and am starting in 2 weeks.  So thrilled and nervous all balled up into one. Such a massive amount of unknown open up with a single phrase of "I Accept".  I really clicked with my supervisor that made me the offer and she even was willing to accept some of my adjustments to the offer. So excited I could cartwheel for days.  Which I have done before, so don't get me started.  (it was a cartwheel-a-thon we did in gymnastics when I was 12...we raised money for cystic fibrosis).

Anywho, back to the now.  We scored these amazing vintage wingback chairs at a thrift store for the living room.  Insane because a friend spotted them two months ago and when we went to check them out then the store was closed.  Finally we had a day together during the week and there they were, sitting waiting for us.  And it was 50% off furniture day.  What the What!  We also did some repotting of our houseplants and upgraded to some awesome pottery we found at a local nursery.  Amazingly, and must to the benefit of Mr., the plants are doing great...the entire jungle we've collected.  Mr. brought home a huge ass palm a week ago and it's loving its new home.  Hell, my orchids are even sprouting new leaves these days.

So...lots of unknown...but the possibilities are limitless.  And my new gig is with a very well established company that has HR in place to prevent all the bs that was going on at my current gig.  That is invaluable I have learned.  Still unsure of whether I should pursue the fact that I was put on a bonus plan, exceeded the goals, and never paid out for my bonus.  My normal mind would say that karma will come and repay me for that wrong and repay those who caused it in reverse...but a bit of me thinks I should shoot the info to someone with some legal experience and see what they say.  I have a few law friends, but not sure what areas any of them specialize in...but I may pick their brains a bit.

Hope everyone's holidays were amazing and your new year is off to a running start.  Hugs, and i'll be better about keeping up now that things are ironed out and my head is clear.  - Rin

Tattoo Tuesday

So, the official word from Dell Tech Support...my laptop needs a new hard drive.  I was unable to recover any of my documents or my entire archive of photos.  Gah!  I have some documents on a back-up with the ex, and I'm thinking he may want to see the dogs in exchange for the files...but I haven't asked yet.  I was hoping to find them so I didn't have to go there.  Of course, he could put them on a cd and just send them to me, but he hasn't offered.  But, the good news...my warranty expired in ten days.  If I had been busy with work or just not using my laptop that day...and not up on the fact that my warranty was expiring, it could have been a much worse situation.  The thing is only a year old...so, it would have been a very expensive paperweight!

Anywho, I'm resolved to the fact that what's lost is just info that had no value and that what was valuable enough, I will remember, and recreate.  As for the photos...I will just have to start a new archive for the blog...which just means I have an excuse to peak around and enjoy the finds.  This time around I'm going to do a much more thorough job organizing them though.  It'll make keeping up with things on here much more efficient.  So, I need to get out the door.  Boys are walked and fed...Mr. is off to his first day at the new gig...and I am caffeinated.  Thanks for sticking up with me!  I have some fun plans in the works...and a new blog with Mr. coming together.  Keep an eye out for me!  It's all around the corner, I just have to keep moving to figure out which fucking corner.

Booyah! - Rin

I'm Back & TGIF

So, I have been on the quiet side since my vacay ended on Wednesday.  I had an amazing time.  We just enjoyed each others company and loved time out of town.  The beach was quiet and gorgeous, and just cool enough to wear a hoodie and walk the sand looking for shells with a coffee...I love that! Falling in love more every day.  Luckily, so is he...so we're all good in the hood on that front!  We shared more childhood stories, grandparent stories, and barely stopped laughing the entire time.  So, it was a winning time off and it definitely will be the first of many trips down to my parents beach house.  While it was a surprise right up until the day of, when his brother asked me a bit too loudly from across the room whether the house was right on the beach or not...blurgh!  He was still excited.

My return to work was not so joyful on the other hand.  I'm trying not to let it weigh me down a second day in a row, but it is taking some bounce out of my step.  The douchebag owner apparently negated the other owners commitment to include me in the teams bonus program, despite the fact that my job is completely focused on increasing business and facilitating the teams ability to do their jobs and ultimately bonus.  I could essentially blow their ability to bonus by not scheduling them effectively, not sending them home early on slow days, managing inventory poorly, not following up on customer needs, etc.  So, that was a blow considering it was a written offer with my last review and raise.  All I get are excuses based on previous and upcoming scheduled court dates revolving around the continued battle over the business.  Leaving me stuck in the mud right in the middle of the shit swamp.  I basically let my good boss know that in an effort to maintain my sanity and not bank my future on empty commitments that are never kept, I was actively seeking other employment opportunities...and while I hoped I could outlast the trial and see the day that douchebag actually no longer has any involvement, I couldn't rest my future on the hope that it will actually ever happen.

So, I came home, and blew up the web with my resume.  I'm just drained emotionally from the entire ordeal.  I'm fairly certain not many people, if anyone, have had to sit on a court witness stand and testify against a former employer, and then have that employer back at the office the next day and working as if nothing happened for 3 months while the courts decided which boss should get the business and how to divide it.  I've just kept working my best to build and grow the business, and in the last quarter we blew plan away by almost 25% above plan.  So the last thing I needed to return to after all that's gone on is finding out that no one is batting for me, no one pushed to ensure that i didn't get screwed out of a bonus program that was in writing and very clear cut in how it should be calculated based on our % above plan.

So, I'm done batting essentially.  I'm doing my job, but not burning myself out. Finished early, so i left early today. If I move on to something bigger and better before resolution happens, then that's what's meant to be.  If i do my job while I'm there, and leave it at the door when it's time to go, and have the joy of seeing douchebag empty out his desk and walk away, then great.  Either way I have to trust that I will end up where I'm supposed to end up.  I just cant go to sleep thinking that I have no pies in the fire so to speak out in the job world.  So, Mr. came over after my shitastic day yesterday, and all the bs just rolled right off my back the minute he walked in the door.  Having his support through all this has been so beneficial.  I love his take on things and his ability to refocus me on what's important.  I trust that we'll both find positions or create them where we can focus on building more time together and making way for even bigger and better vacations.

So, that's where I am now.  Walked my boys in the crisp air, unwinding from today, and on my way out to meet Mr. for dinner.  I hope everyone's weeks were as amazing as my vacay, and not nearly as shitty as my Thursday. Peace etc. - Rin
